I have been involved in the Internet and digital stuff for ten years and during that time I have witnessed or been a part of some pretty amazing things. But more amazing than all the technology has been the willingness of business leaders to listen to the techies and marketeers with open minds and hearts and wallets and then risk their reputation and brand in the new digital age. Without that we’d be dead in the water.
Here we are in 2009 and everybody knows that digital doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive; it just needs to be in line with the objectives in hand. Think strategy, not technology; the technology should be invisible so results can be fully appreciated.
But even with diversity, flexibility and accountability that can be harnessed by embracing digital, has the last ten years made it any easier for technologists and marketers to deploy their wares?
The answer has to be definitely maybe…

Hi Dom,
I think views have shifted over the last ten years . Then there was a fear that we would all become hermits, have all our provisions delivered and have no friends.
Now ‘social media’ has nailed that dead and taken us off in the opposite direction. Social promiscuity “who has the most ‘friends’” online. Embrace it and you will see your business and social life take off – but only if you can manage the ‘hits man’.
Cheers Piers
